Frequently Asked Questions

Where should I start when planning a wedding?

Start by agreeing what matters most to you both, a budget you are comfortable with and an approximate guest count. These decisions make it easier to shortlist venues and compare suppliers. Keep a single record of your decisions, quotes and payment dates so you can see what needs attention next.

How far in advance should I start planning my wedding?

Start when you feel ready and have a sense of your budget and preferred dates. More lead time can give you greater choice of venues and suppliers, especially for popular dates. A shorter planning period can also work if you are flexible. Confirm your venue and key suppliers first, then build a checklist around their deadlines.

What is the difference between a wedding planner and a wedding coordinator?

A wedding planner typically helps develop and organise the wedding over a longer period, which may include budgets, venue searches and supplier selection. A coordinator usually focuses on bringing an existing plan together and managing the running order around the wedding day. The scope varies, so check exactly what preparation, handover and on-site support is included.

Do I need a wedding coordinator?

It depends on how complex your plans are and who will manage the practical details. Ask your venue what its team handles and what remains your responsibility. If you have several suppliers, multiple locations or a setup you are organising yourself, dedicated coordination may help. Agree who will answer supplier questions and manage timings so that the responsibility is clear.

How do I create a wedding budget?

Agree an overall spending limit, list your priorities and divide the budget into categories such as venue, food, photography, clothing and entertainment. Use actual quotes as they arrive, include delivery and setup charges, and keep some money unallocated for unexpected costs. Our free Wedding Budget Calculator gives you a place to organise those figures.

What wedding planning tools are available for free?

Impulse’s Wedding Budget Calculator is available now for free. Our wedding planning checklist, timeline planner, seating planner and guest list planner are planned additions and are not available yet. You can also read our existing wedding table-plan guide for help with seating and guest organisation.
